Negative & Interrogative sentences (Past Tense):
There are a few rules to change the affirmative sentences into negative
and interrogative sentences.
In case of past tenses, there are two categories for it:
1. If the given
sentence has helping verb
2. If the given sentence has no helping verb.
If the given sentence has helping verb:
If the given sentence has
helping verb, we have to put “NOT” to make it negative sense as:
She was driving a car. (She
was not driving a car.)
They had left for Karachi. (They
had not left for Karachi.)
They had been working for ten days. (They had not been working for ten days.)
To make it interrogative,
we will change the place of the helping verb and put it at start like these
sentences.
She was driving a car. (Was
she was not driving a car?)
They had left for Karachi. (Had
they not left for Karachi?)
They had been working for ten days. (Had they not been working for ten days?)
If the given sentence has no helping verb:
If the given sentence has no
helping verb, we have to put “DID NOT” in addition to make it negative of sense
and we to change the 2nd form of the verb to the 1st form
as:
You played hockey. (You did not played hockey)
To make it interrogative, we will put “DID” at the beginning of the sentences and change the 2nd form of the verb to the 1st form as:
You played hockey. (Did
you play hockey?
