The central bank of any country is like a backbone in the economy. The bank performs a few important functions & plays a vital role in the economy of that country. These functions are divided into two parts. These are as:

·         Functions as the government’s bank

·         Functions as the bankers’ bank

Functions as the government’s bank

                  In this section, the bank performs following functions:

                              Issuance of Currency Notes

                              Control over Credit

                              Custodian of Foreign Currency

                              Management of Public Debts

                              Development of Financial Institutions
